In December, 1984 on New Year's Eve
marked the beginning of a new
ministry that is still going strong today and has continued to
multiply into many other ministries throughout the years. This
introduction came when Thomas and Joann Brooks of "the Thomas
Brooks Singers" moved into Pastoral / Evangelistic work after
traveling for many years and sharing the gospel through
song.
Three young men
from this ministry joined up with five other young men to form
the group the "Samaritans" (later known as Emerald City
Quartet"). These eight young men were motivated by a desire to
work for the Lord and to continue sharing the gospel of Jesus
Christ through song.

The
members were: Mark Allison, Danny
Allen, Paul Herring, Earl Kelley, Wilbur
Kelley,
Frank Owens, Richard Shiflet,
and Jeff Wideman.
In 1989, with the introduction of
two young ladies into the group, Tina Davenport
Deason and Noel Shiflet, of course, all things had to change
including the name, so henceforth came the Joint Heirs.
Through the years, many special
people have been a part of these ministries and have all
contributed to what it is today. For it has not been made up
of one particular individual or personality but has been made
up of "vessels" that have wanted to be used of the
Lord.
The following biographies provides
a small walk through of all the special individuals who
have been a part of this ministry over the past 20
years.
Singers:
Mark Allison: As an individual who has
always loved to sing, Mark began traveling in the singing
ministry in 1981 with the Thomas Brooks Singers. In December,
1984, when Thomas and Joann Brooks moved into pastoral
ministry, Mark was one of the three young men who continued
his singing ministry with the Samaritans (later known as
Emerald City Quartet). He traveled with these guys for almost
5 years. In later years, Mark continued in the ministry of
"Mark Allison & Emerald City Trio". He and his wife,
Tonya, also served as a Minister of Music for 2 years at
Warrenville Church of God. He is currently singing with Garden
City Quartet from Augusta, Ga.
Frank Owens:
Frank
also began singing with the Thomas Brooks Singers in 1981. He
continued his ministry through the Samaritans (Emerald City
Quartet) and with the Emerald City Trio. In later years, Frank
joined the Centurions of Greenwood, SC. Frank and his wife,
Donna are still an active part of the Centurions' ministry
today. Danny R.
Allen: What an awesome
song writer! Danny traveled in the ministry of the Samaritans
(Emerald City Quartet) for over 5 years. He continued in the
ministry with the Joint
Heirs for another two years.
Danny has been given a special talent for song writing. Several of his songs
were recording titles including "Time Won't Matter",
"Ready To Go" and "It's Almost Over". Other
great songs written by Danny include "He's All You'll Ever
Need".
Tina D. Deason:
Tina was always
the "dynamite". She was the "Big Voice" in a "small package".
Tina began singing at a very young age. She traveled as a
young teen with " Sounds of Praise" and later joined the
Joint
Heirs in 1990 and traveled for several years. Over the years
she has served as a houseparent for Connie Maxwell and
volunteered at Bowers Rodgers Home for children.
Rick Riddley:
Rick was the guy
who never quit smiling. Always full of the joy of the Lord,
Rick wanted to tell everyone about the awesome work God had
done in his life. Rick began traveling with the
Joint Heirs
in
1992. He continued until 1995 when he moved into a ministry
with his wife, Stacy, called "Ship-Rah Ministries". This
ministry was designed to provide shelter for abused
women/expectant mother's.
Mike Hammond: Mike was always the "Gap
Filler". With his humble spirit, Mike first joined the Joint
Heirs as the Sound Engineer in 1991. He traveled for several
years and would
even fill in as a singer
when needed. As an ordained minister in the Church of God,
He later became a permanent singer and the Joint Heirs begin
holding weekend revivals in which He would preach in at least
one of the services. He later met his wife, Shana, and moved
into pastoral ministry in 1997. He is currently the pastor of
the Liberty Church of God in Liberty
SC.
Patrick O
Shields: Patrick was the "life of the
party." There was never a dull or quiet moment when he was
on the bus. As a young adult in his early twenties, Patrick
was part of the Joint Heirs from 1997 to 1999.
Through the ministry, Patrick began desiring to work
with Young People and always encouraged many with his
testimonies of how God had kept his hand upon his life.
Patrick and his wife, Louann
are currently enrolled in the Pre-credential workshops for
exhorters
license in Music ministry at the Hickory Tavern Church of God
in Gray Court, SC.
Travis King:
Travis will
always been remembered for his strong desire to win souls for
the Lord. Through his powerful testimonies and genuine love
for others, Travis was a wonderful part of the Joint Heirs
from early 1999 to 2000. During 2000, Travis became an
ordained minister in the Baptist Church. With his wife, Renee,
he is currently pastoring Grace Baptist Church in Whitmire,
SC.
Debra Kelley: Debbie had always been
traveling with the group as Earl's companion, but it was not
until the summer of 2000 that she joined the Joint Heirs on
stage. When Travis moved into evangelist work, Debbie agreed
to fill the gap until the group found another singer. As an
individual who had never sang before, Debbie had so much
enthusiasm that she continued to travel and sing for a little
over two years. Today, Debbie and Earl share a singing
ministry together as the Kelley Family
Ministries.
Earl Kelley: Earl will always been known
as the "mentor" of the group. As a powerful singer, teacher,
and preacher, Earl began traveling in the ministry in December
1984. He continued in the ministry with the Joint Heirs in
1989. During the 18 years of traveling with the group, Earl
always had a special anointing He touched many lives through
his testimony and excitement about the Lord, Jesus Christ. In
October, 2002, Earl made that step into Evangelism for the
call that God placed on his life. He is continuing to preach
and sing today and ministers with his wife, Debbie as the
Kelley Family Ministries.
Then of course, you can't leave out the
